Description

The SW Macadam Bay Drive and Trail Project is located on the west bank of the Willamette River beneath the new Sellwood Bridge in Portland, Oregon. The Project consists of a multi-use trail network, and a small local road to maintain access to local businesses from the adjacent OR-43. Elevated ramp structures connect the regional trail to the Sellwood bridge and OR-43, providing continuous access for pedestrians and cyclists.

Features

This Project allows pedestrians and cyclists crossing the Willamette River via the Sellwood Bridge access to southwest Portland via a connection to Miles Place to the North. The Project was also used as an opportunity for habitat restoration work in the Powers Marine Park to the south of the bridge which is also accessible by the improved trail. Finally, the alignment was selected to accommodate a future streetcar line and station. Sustainable project features include:

  • 16' wide regional trail for cyclists and pedestrians
  • Native species used in landscaped areas
  • Stream restoration efforts to provide habitat for salmonids
  • Interpretive signage describing local wildlife and elements of bridge replacement program
  • Trail connections to Powers Marine Park and Butterfly Park, including stream lookout points
  • Wayfinding signage for trail users
