CC-1: Alternative Energy

Goal

Offset total lifecycle energy use through autonomous alternative energy sources.

Requirements

Compute the energy and cost requirements for all electrified components on the project as listed below. Offset the project energy use by installing autonomously powered electrical components on this project. For consistency, use an estimated service life that matches the lifetime used to compute Project Requirements PR-2 Lifecycle Cost Analysis and PR-3 Lifecycle Inventory. One point for each of the five items is awarded as noted below in Table CC-1.1.

Documentation

• Report the total operational energy of the project electrical systems. Specify the expected year of end-of-life used in calculations (should be same in PR-2 and PR-3).
• Report the total system installation, decommissioning process, and expected maintenance costs for non-pavement components in terms of current energy cost. The remaining calculated values should be shown in submittals for PR-3.
• Provide at least one sample cut sheet and specification for each technology installed on the project that shows the expected watt-hours of the component.
• Provide supporting calculations to show the proposed energy offset amount and state the proposed credits achieved signed by the Project Electrical Engineer.
