Goal
Improve construction quality by using a contractor that has a formal quality
management process.
Requirements
The prime contractor, design-builder or construction management firm shall have a
documented quality management system (QMS) for the entire company or at least the
portion(s) of the company participating in the project. The QMS must be in place for
the duration of project construction. As a minimum, the QMS and its documentation
shall meet the requirements of International Standards Organization (ISO) 9001:2008
or ISO 9001:2000.
Documentation
Submit one (1) of the following items:
- Documentation of the ISO 9001:2008 or ISO 9001:2000 certification for the prime
contractor, design-builder or construction management firm
- A copy of the prime contractor, designâbuilder or construction management firm’s
QMS documentation to include:
- Quality policy and objective
- Quality manual
- Listing of documented procedures
- Listing of records retained in accordance with their QMS
- Documentation of the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award awarded to the
prime contractor, design-builder or construction management firm

Hmm, good point. We opted for the 2000 specification based on the original version. It is a good idea. We will add this to the Potential Issues and clarify, if it is not apparent already, that 2008 also satisfies this credit.
Must pay attention to the validity of certification based on ISO 2000 version 9001. After a certain date only the certifications based on the 2008 version will be valid and so the manual should refer only to the 2008 version
